Rankings & Ratings: Allergy Capitals

This Thursday, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) releases its list of “Allergy Capitals” — the top 100 metropolitan areas for (1) average pollen count of 300 grains per cubic meter of outdoor air, (2) board-certified allergists per 10,000 patients, and (3) allergy medications per patient.

Except for 10th-ranked San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA, the worst ten are Inner South metros -

  1. Lexington-Fayette, KY
  2. Greensboro-High Point, NC
  3. Johnson City, TN
  4. Augusta-Richmond County, GA-SC
  5. Jackson, MS
  6. Knoxville, TN
  7. Birmingham-Hoover, AL
  8. New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner, LA
  9. Little Rock-North Little Rock, AR

The AAFA notes that no place in America is safe from seasonal allergies. Really? What about Colorado high country or the empty Sonoran Desert? Just asking.
